the rainfall has diminished from yesterday. mainly snowfall as we can see through pennsylvania, new york, and through ohio. a number of winter weather advisories. with snowfall rates that could bring 1 ft. in portions of this region. as we take a look of the watches and the warning's there is a winter weather the advisory could produce two-5 in.. however, the pink and the red could produce more snowfall. and in this location near pittsburgh we are going to c 1.5 ft. and gusting. this is going to produce to the east but it will possibly dissipate within 24 hours. >> this high winds and record snowfalls have turned holiday travel into a nightmare before christmas. this satellite photo shows the size of the winter storm now moving into new england. down on earth, the picture is not so pretty. in the upper midwest it is more than a foot deep. >> heavy, wet snow driving hazardous. >> we just dumped in the ditch >> flying unpredictable. >> i'm prayin' >> i'm afraid i wont make it >> hundreds of flights delayed a multi=vehicle pileup in iowa. another one in michigan, some deliveries delayed. bu

town about 60 miles northeast of new york city. the death toll at the sandy hook elementary school stands at 26, including 20 children, some of them kindergarteners. and the principal of the school was killed as well. the gunman, 20-year-old adam lanza, armed with two handguns, opened fire in the kindergarten classroom where his mother was a teacher. her body was found later at her home. after the shootings, the police say adam lanza took his own life at the school. jim axelrod tells us how it all unfolded. jim? >> reporter: well, scott, it was just before -- just after 9:00 this morning at the sandy hook elementary school, which is right down the road here, a kindergarten through fourth grade school, so early this kids were still delivering their attendance list from their classrooms to the main office. as we say, a little after 9:00, the gunman apparently walked into the school and started shooting. police got 911 calls and kids could hear screaming coming over the intercom. the school was quickly placed on lockdown. teachers locking doors, pulling shades, keeping kids away from

're traveling tomorrow, headed back east, from new york down toward d.c., atlanta, new orleans, we have a line of showers that will continue to push towards the south and east. maybe some imbedded thunderstorms. the snow in the rockies and look for a new batch of rain to move into the pacific northwest and that will move into the bay area as we head into the middle part and latter part of the work week. if you're traveling across the state, few lingering showers expected. l.a. towards san diego, watch out for fresno, and pockets of dense valley fog there and if you're head tolling tahoe, a little light snow expected. 37 degrees. here's a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast. some scatters showers and sun breaks expected for us tomorrow. then thickening clouds sunday night, rain likely for monday. on tuesday, we get a few lingering showers. wednesday looks dry, and then a much stronger storm system is due in here by thursday night, throughout the night, through friday morning, and the forecast models are suggesting moderate rain out of the storm system on thursday and gusty winds. we'll'l
